Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
